The Amateur Sleuth

In the world of Cozies you encounter many different characters. Bus the staple of these worlds is the amateur detective. Why the amateur? I think it’s because the amateur can skirt the rules, and it’s someone the reader can relate with. Who doesn’t want to see justice done? Who wouldn’t love to be part of the investigation that brings a bad guy in, but doesn’t want the life of a cop. The observant, well connected bookseller, barista, artist, (insert your profession here) is that perfect detective. Yes they tend to be stubborn, and yes they do things that could land them in the “To Stupid To Live” column only to be saved at the last minute. But over all these amateur sleuths are the core of any good cozy mystery.
